Goodrich — On May 19, the Goodrich Martians won the Flint Metro League with a 3-0 win over Flushing. The Martians move on to 29-0 and have won the league in back-to-back seasons.
“I’m not sure the boys know the significance of winning the Flint Metro League back-to-back in our first two years in the league,” said Foreback, who recently eclipsed 700 career wins at Goodrich. “It’s a huge accomplishment. We were able to sneak up on teams last year because they didn’t know our ability.”
After two walks in the first inning Travis Liford puts down a perfect bunt to advance the runners. By getting Carson Raether to third it allowed Goodrich to plate the first run on a wild pitch. After Jack Foreback was hit by a pitch and then stole second Flushing balked in the second run.
That was all Noah Keller needed. He pitched 6 innings striking out nine giving up three hits and walking two. Brady Gauthier came in to pitch the final frame giving up one hit and striking out the side. Goodrich only had two hits on the night but one by Jordan Conn scored Goodrich’s 3rd run in the bottom of the 4th inning with a double to left centerfield. In the second inning, Flushing had the bases loaded with no outs when Keller took charge. After a walk, hit by pitch, and a single, Noah struck-out back to back hitters and then got a ground ball back to the mound to get the final out.
“That was a key inning because if Flushing answers with a hit and ties the game the tide could have turned,” said Foreback. “”Noah shut them down and didn’t look back. Goodrich played error free baseball and had outstanding pitching.”
