Boulder Pointe Golf Club in Oxford set the stage for drama last week for Clarkston Varsity Golf.
‘We experienced both joy and sorrow,? said coach Mark Wiegand. ‘We definitely played well in the League Tournaments this season, winning both of them at Boulder Pointe.?
The week started at Boulder Pointe with the Second OAA League Tournament. The Wolves came out with the victory for the second time this season with a team score of 323. Finishing second was Troy with 324 and Rochester Adams with 325.
Tommy Ronk led with 78, followed by Walker 80, Robeson 81, and Wotton with 84.
‘It’s nice to be on the positive side of the one stroke for a change,? Wiegand said. ‘It reinforces what we’ve been telling our players about grinding out every shot of every round and the payoff will be in the end. Today it was.?
At Thursday’s regionals, the Wolves played well but did not qualify for State Finals.
‘We played very well today, shooting 315, and even though the guys are disappointed, I’m very proud of their play,? Wiegand said.
Ronk led the Wolves for the final time with a round of 75.
‘I’m sad that Tommy didn’t get to compete at the State Finals,? Wiegand said. ‘His teammates really wanted to get it done for him today or to have him qualify individually. He’s led our team from start to finish this season, and I’m going to miss his character, hard work and tenacity. ?
Team scores were also Taylor Walker 77, Jimmy Delnick 81, Nick Robeson 82, and Chad Wotton with 88.
‘Overall I’m very pleased that the youth of our team gained experience throughout the season,? Wiegand said. ‘They tasted victory and also defeat. We had only one player start this year with any prior varsity experience and to accomplish everything they did this season while learning to compete was awesome.?
