Letter to Editor: Anyone else tired of school district’s ‘excuses? for low test scores?

Does anyone else get tired of hearing school officials make up all kinds of excuses of why Oxford Schools score so low on various standardized tests?
Personally, I am ashamed that our Chief Academic Officer and others before him say we should continue to shrug off this poor rating as ‘one of those things you take with a grain of salt.?
Does Mr. Ken Weaver think that other school districts don’t have kids who are having a bad day but taking the same test that “radically affects” their scores?
Taking into account the same mindset, does it mean that all the schools that scored higher than Oxford consist only of students having good days?
What are the odds of that? When was the last time Oxford scored in the top 25 percent?
According to Weaver, taxpayers in Oxford are supposed to judge the quality of our education by what parents and students and teachers think of our school!
Really? Does this make any sense to any reasonable person? How many sheep does he think are standing in line to grab a mouthful of that?
According to numerous articles in this newspaper and the Wildcat Bulletin, Oxford schools are on the top of the world.
Yes, they do offer lots of enrichment programs including their excellent music program which I am very grateful. But shouldn’t the emphasis be as strong or stronger for academics?
How does Mr. Weaver know how taxpayers, parents, teachers, and students judge our school? I’d sure like to read that survey that he swears by!
I for one would just like one honest explanation one time from somebody of why our school scored so low on the Bridge Magazine rating or other rating and exactly what concrete measure the school will be taking to increase those scores.
Instead of a bunch of rhetoric, maybe the new school board will get to the bottom of this and hopefully we have elected some independent thinkers who won’t be standing in line like the good sheep some people wish to believe we all are.
