Brandon Twp. — What started with about a dozen friends and a dream to be a reality TV show is now a hit locally.
Hooterville 9-Ball played each week at the Boat Bar, 2000 S. Ortonville road was the idea of Groveland Township resident and local business owner Ron Stead.
“The plan was we could put television cameras and broadcast our own reality TV show right here in Ortonville,” said Stead. “Well, that was 12 years ago and it just did not work out, but the pool at the Boat sure did.”
Stead said an average of 30-35 players from 21-99 show up for games during the week.
“Nine-ball is a lot of fun,” he said. “The average player can play.”
Andrea Webster tournament director Hooterville 9-ball.
“There are all of these unique individuals with different backgrounds and lifestyles coming together to not only crack racks, but crack open a cold beer and break bread in a welcoming, unassuming environment,” she said. “There are brothers and sisters, fathers and sons and others who feel like family just the same. We celebrate each other’s victories and mourn one another’s losses. It’s not just a pool tournament.”
