Lake Orion Lions hosted the Life Summit Homeschoolers from Detroit on Tuesday. Life Summit led throughout and pulled away late for a 71-56 win.
Senior Ben Cuyler led the Lions with 18 points.’Senior Matt Dobis followed with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Dan Pelletier led the visitors with 29 points, including five three-pointers.
The Lions traveled to Rochester Hills on Thursday for a showdown for the FBAC championship with the Rochester Hills Christian Eagles.’Both teams had only two losses in the conference for the season.?
The hosts got off to a fast start leading 14-3, halfway through the first quarter. After’a timeout, the Lions managed to pull within six by the end of the quarter.’From there, they managed to tie the score, 32-all, by halftime.?
The game went back and forth in the second half, with the Eagles pulling out a 62-60 win for the championship.
The Lions out-rebounded the Eagles 62 to 31 and had 16 steals to the Eagles? nine, but’the Lions’did not convert those extra possessions to scores and managed to hit only seven of their 20 free throws attempts.
Dobis and Erick Dewar each recorded a double-double.’Dobis had 15 points and 21 rebounds, while Dewar had 14 points and 15 rebounds
This ended the Lions regular season with a record of 16-7 and 7-3 in the FBAC.
The leading scorers for the Eagles were Brett Crooks with 25 points and John West with 22 points.?
The Lions were seeded?#3 in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools (MACS) tournament and drew a bye for the first round on Feb. 22.?
The Lions hosted Bridgeport Christian School of Saginaw’this week after this edition went to press.’A win there would put the Lions in a semifinal game on Feb. 26 against the winner of Springfield Christian Academy and Community Baptist School of Saginaw.?
