Clarkston Area Lions offer free vision screening to children ages 1-5 years old on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1-4 p.m., at the Independence Township Library.
Trained club members use special cameras to photograph children’s eyes. Pictures are sent to Children’s Hospital for review. Parents receive results via U.S. mail.
The screening is to detect poor vision or risk factors interfering with vision and normal visual development, including:
Improperly aligned eyes, Strabismus, lazy, cross-eye;
Imperfect refractive powers of the eye, nearsightedness, farsightedness, anisometriopia, and astigmatism; and
Obstructions that interfere with light passing through the eye, cataracts, ptosis, droopy eye-lid.
Cameras have been purchased by the Lions, and film and picture reading costs are donated by the Clarkston Area Lions as a service to the community.
The state endorsed the project, so it fulfills vision-screening requirements for kindergarten.
To register, call the library at 248-625-2212. Pre-registration is not mandatory but helps ensure sufficient film and other supplies.
