The Lake Orion Baptist School varsity basketball team opened their season at home, losing to Clinton Township’s Faith Christian, 52-30.
The Lake Orion Lions were led by Clinton Verley, with 13 points and 14 rebounds. He also had four steals and two blocked shots. Ben Cuyler had seven points for the team, while Cole Welby had five.
The Lions next traveled to Troy, losing to Bethany Christian, 47-36.
Lake Orion was down 12 points at half time, and managed to close the gap to four points late in the fourth quarter.
Verley had his second double-double, scoring 13 and grabbing 13 rebounds. Cuyler had nine points, Welby had six and David King scored two points.
The Lions traveled to Sterling Heights on Dec. 2 and got their first victory of the season, defeating Sterling Christian, 60-45.
Four Lake Orion players finished in double figures, and Matt Dobis had his first ever double-double game, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Verley led all scorers with 20 points. Cuyler had 11 points, as did Welby. King finished with four points.
The Lions traveled to Saginaw next to take on the Community Christian Kings, losing 66-31.
Verley had 14 points to lead the Lions, while Dobis had six.
