The Lake Orion Liquid Lightning swim team completed its 2009-2010 swim season with a 10th overall finish in a field of 60 plus teams at the Michigan Long Course State Championships. The State Championship meet was held over the July 30-Aug 1 weekend in Holland, Michigan.
Leading the Liquid Lightning squad in points were Devon Nowicki and Haley
Kornburger. Devon led the team with three state championship wins, along with other strong finishes.
He received first place in the Boys 11-12 50m breaststroke, boys 11-12 100m breaststroke and boys 11-12 200m breaststroke and also qualified for the Michigan Zone Team.
Haley received the state championship win in the girls 13-14 50m freestyle and also qualified for the Michigan Zone Team.
Other strong swimmers included Bianco Tiberio, who placed in the top eight in four events, and Brien Moffit and DJ Seeds, who had multiple top eight finishes.
These swimmers had very strong swims in multiple events that qualified them for the Michigan Zone Team as well. Bridget Muns, Zac Seeds and Bethany Abramcyk paced the 12 & under division with multiple top 16 finishes.
In the Girls 13-14 year old division, Monica Gorgas lead the way with a two top 16 place finishes.
In the boys 13-14 year old division Danny Olthof had a 16th place finish in the 100m breaststroke. In the girls senior division Annie Jongekrijg, Kristen Finney, Emily Shallman, and Hannah Kopydlowski all had top 8 and top 16 finishes.
Annie and Hannah paced the team with multiple top 8 finishes in the freestyle events. Overall the 25-swimmer squad from Lake Orion swam hard and strong and all scored personal best times at the State Championship meet. This meet concluded the summer swim season for the Lake Orion Liquid Lightning, but the team was back in the water on Monday, Aug. 30.
