Low voter turnout in unopposed school election

Only .65 percent of registered voters in Lake Orion turned out to vote in the school election on June 14.
Mary Jo Burchart and Tina Peterson both ran unopposed in the race for two seats on the Lake Orion Board of Education. A total of 345 votes were cast, with Burchart garnering 175, and Peterson 170. They each will serve four-year terms, expiring in 2008.
In the Oakland Community College election, three members were named to the board of trustees for six year terms, expiring 2010.
Thomas Kuhn led the vote with 13, 680 in the county, and 61 in Lake Orion. Anne Scott finished with 12,938, including 63 in Lake Orion, winning there. Janice Simmons had 10,764 votes, including 51 in Lake Orion.
