Sophomore Connor Lyons second goal against Farmington helped the team hold onto the lead in Saturday’s hockey game.
The Wolves were one point ahead after the Flyers scored their third goal near the end of the third period.
Goalie Neeko Muniz and his defense held on as Farmington took out their goalie and put a sixth man in their offensive line.
Adam Frank sent the puck down to Flyers? territory, but Farmington came right back with the puck and shot on the goal.
Muniz caught the puck before the buzzer sounded and the Wolves won, 4-3.
‘We were more positionally sound,? said Clarkston Head Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘We hit them a little bit more and forced them to turn the puck over, which is why we had a two point lead at the beginning of the third period.?
Michael Rajala scored the first goal for Clarkston eight minutes into the game.
Farmington’s Jack Nickelhoff tied the score a minute later.
Lyons brought the Wolves back into the lead when he scored his first goal of the night with 45 seconds left in a power play.
He followed it up with another goal in the second period.
‘He shot the puck right from the spot to the net from a nice pass from Frank,? said Krygier. ‘He was in position and played positional hockey ? when you play that way you get opportunities.?
The final goal for the night was made by Michael Fiteny with three minutes left in the second period.
Assists for the night came from Austin Morse, Dillon Drayer, Cole Schaffer, Adam Matynowski, David Cannons and Luke Conner.
‘We played better,? said Krygier. ‘We need to start playing well all periods. We need to be consistent but we are going to change that a round. We are going to make it happen.?
The Wolves made 14 shots on Farmington’s net.
Muniz saved 17 shots from the Flyers.
‘Neeko has been playing well every game for us,? said Krygier. ‘He has put us in the position to win the game.?
The boys lost to Rochester United last Thursday, 2-1.
Michael Fitney scored the Wolves lone goal in the first period. Jack Schlau and Lyons assisted.
The Wolves made 15 shots on the net and Muniz saved 15.
‘We didn’t play well,? said Krygier. ‘We were flat and they outworked us.?
The Wolves take on cross-town rivals Lake Orion (3-2) in their next game.
The boys lost twice to the Dragons last year and do not anticipate to repeat it again.
‘We need to hit them,? said Krygier. ‘We need to be all over them. They are a good team and well-coached.?
‘We are looking forward to it,? said Dragons Head Coach Pat Cherry. ‘We were successful last year. This year we have to start over and take each period as it comes. It will be a good challenge for us. Clarkston is a good team.?
The game will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday and is at Detroit Skate Center.
