A domestic altercation led to an apparent suicide by a man on Friday night in the 200 block of Bellevue Avenue in Lake Orion.
According to Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh, officers were called to a home by a woman who called 911 and told them that a man who lives there with her assaulted her and then turned a gun on himself.
Both Lake Orion and Oxford police responded to the call and found the 38-year-old woman outside the home. The woman said her 42-year-old boyfriend, who also lives there, took his life.
The woman said the man assaulted her during an argument Friday night. At one point he went into a bedroom and came out with a pistol. She said he threatened her with the pistol, placing it against her head and threatening to shoot her.
She said moments later he fired the gun but missed her. The bullet struck a wall. She said he then turned the gun on himself.
Officers found the man’s body in the living room with a single gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
Police said alcohol use is believed to be a factor in the altercation.
No other persons were in the home. The female was not injured in the assault.
The case remains under investigation pending autopsy and toxicology reports.
