Effective May 1 through Sept. 30, Orion Township and the Village of Lake Orion are asking water customers with automated sprinkler systems to follow Mandatory Water Use Restrictions in an effort to control future water rate increases.
Compliance will result in less water usage during peak times and help hold down costs by increasing the efficiency of the water system, said local officials.
Water users are asked to: Water residential and commercial lawns/landscaping and subdivision common areas between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. Experts recommend watering lawns closer to morning hours so the lawn will have water during the heat of the day. Restrictions are for automatic sprinkler systems, not hoses or sprinklers connected to hoses.
Water lawns and landscaping for properties with odd-numbered addresses on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Water lawns and landscaping for properties with even-numbered addresses on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Customers who do not have automatic sprinkler systems are asked to follow the same schedule for odd / even address and not to water between 7 a.m.-10 a.m. or 4 p.m.?8 p.m.
Orion Township is a customer of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. DWSD determines rates to suburban communities based on various significant factors that include maximum day demand and peak hour demand. By shifting usage to non-peak hours and reducing spikes in the daily demand, water cost increases can be reduced.
