Martian cager nets 1,000 career points

Flushing — On Feb. 23 Goodrich Junior Parker LePla reached the 1,000 points career mark during the Flint Metro League Championship win over Lake Fenton. LePla, 17, who has played on the varsity basketball team since his freshman year. LaPla had 991 points going into the game and drained the milestone bucket in the first quarter en route to 14 points in the game.
“I’ve had really good coaching, teams and teammates,” said LePla,. “My hook shot is my best.”
LaPla, has not yet committed to a college after high school although Michigan Tech and Northwood University have made offers.
“I’d like to thank my parents Kim and Brian, brother Jenson and Jesus for this success,” he said.
Martian Varsity Basketball Head Coach Gary Barns said LePla joins an elite class of 1,000 point players including St. Charles, Tony Johnson and Tyson Davis just to name a few.
“Parker is only going to get better,” said Barns. “He’s our captain and great when teams press. We’ll have him back next year for his senior year along with his little brother Jenson.”
