Durand — On Aug. 19 the Goodrich Martians Girls and Boys won the Evan Gardner Cross Country Invitational 2022 at Durand High School.
The Goodrich Boys Cross Country was tops with 37 points and a 19:04 average for 5,000 meters, followed by Webberville with 61 points and a 20:28 average time. Brandon was third with a score of 67 and an average time of 20:13.
“We did not have the best runner on the course but we had five in the top 14 which secured the victory,” said Head Coach Al Warden.
First place was Brandon Blackhawk Nicholas Shilling with a time of 16:51. GHS Sophomore Cole Winter had a second-place finish and a lifetime personal best 17:43.
The Goodrich Girls Cross Country was first overall with 15 points and a 20:39 average time. Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary was second with 67 points and a 25:02 average. Brandon was third with 70 points and a 25:27 average.
“The Goodrich girls ran their first meet of the season and impressed everyone present, placing 10 in the top 12 and finished with a perfect score of 15,” said Warden.
First for Goodrich and first in the meet was sophomore Kamryn Lauinger with a time of 19:31, second for Goodrich and second overall was sophomore Layla Jordan, a newcomer to cross country, with a time of 19:55, third for Goodrich and third overall was Junior Alexis Waring with a time of 21:03.
