GOODRICH- The Lady Martian varsity volleyball team has been a hot number this season. On Thursday, Jan. 23, the girls traveled to Bendle, where they defeated the Tigers in two sets, 15-5, 15-1.
In the Martian victory, Christina Saindon was 10 for 11 serving, while Rebecca Scott went seven for eight, with an ace. Julie Owen and Jaclyn Lawrence were five for five and five for seven, consecutively; each with two aces.
Scott led her team in kills, with five, while Natalie McCormick and freshman Tara Garman each took three.
Moving into play on Jan. 27, the girls took their first league defeat as they fell to New Lothrop on the road. The girls took the loss 8-15, 15-12, 6-15. McCormick went 12 for 12 serving, while Scott was 12 for 14. Jessica March was 11 for 12 serving and Saindon and Lawrence were seven for seven and seven for eight, respectively. McCormick, Saindon and Lawrence each had one ace, while Scott and March each got two.
McCormick also led Goodrich in kills for the night, with eight. Scott nailed seven, while Garman and Betsey Seymour each got two.
The Martians increased their record to 11-7-7 overall, and 4-1 in league. The Martians took on Genesee at home on Jan. 30, unfortunately, no scores were available by press time.
Next on the agenda for the Martians is a battle at Montrose, tonight. Game time is slated for approximately 7 p.m.
