They gave all of their tomorrows for our today.
They made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve this Republic’s freedom and security.
Though they slumber in graves around the nation and throughout the world, they live on in the hearts and minds of grateful countrymen.
In remembrance of the heroic deeds and selfless actions of America’s fallen servicemen and women, Oxford and Addison will host Memorial Day ceremonies this weekend.
Addison’s event will take place 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at the Lakeville Cemetery on E. Drahner Rd.
Sponsored by the Lakeville Cemetery Auxiliary Society, the ceremony will include military honors such as the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute followed by the placing of a wreath to honor our fallen soldiers and a patriotic reading by Auxiliary President Marlene Mallia.
An outdoor luncheon will follow the event.
Oxford’s Memorial Day event will take place on Monday, May 31.
The ceremonies will commence at 10 a.m. in Centennial Park.
Following the activities in the park, the annual Memorial Day parade will proceed north on S. Washington St. and west on W. Burdick St. Veterans groups wishing to march in the parade should call Post 108 at (248) 628-9081.
The parade will end at Ridgelawn Cemetery where a memorial service will take place.
