A new group of bikers just rolled into town.
On May 22 the first gathering of the Messengers of the Sword motorcycle group roared to the front of Hillside Bible Church, 173 North Church St.
“Our goal is simple—carry the word of God via motorcycles,” said Pastor Cliff Powell. “The sword we carry is the word of God.”
Powell said all bikers are invited to join the group.
“Right now we’re made up of members of our congregation, but also we have some motorcycle enthusiasts and some hard line biker clubs that ride with us.”
Riders from the Christian Motorcyclists Association, the Harley Motorcycle Group or HOGS, H-I-M Motorcycle Ministry and sport bikers combined for about 80 motorcyclist and 130 riders that attended the event.
“Sometimes bikers are considered rather tough,” said Powell, who along with his wife JoAnn are long-time motorcyclists. “We’d like to reach out to everyone. Even if you don’t ride, all are welcome. The idea is to draw a crowd to get the message out.”
From the church in the village the bikers headed to the Hillside Bible Church north campus near County Line Road and M-15.
