The third annual Michigan Portrait Show, which opened in September at the Orion Art Center, is now on display at Orion Township Hall through Nov. 2.
The show, which featured area artists as well as some individuals traveling from as far as Holland and Traverse City, awarded over $500 in cash in the art competition.
Jorge Torres, of Clarkston, took the top honors with his first place finish, a watercolor of ‘Olga.? Second place went to Victor Pytko, of Birmingham, for his acrylic self portrait, while third place was awarded to Frank Dulin, of Rochester Hills, with his watercolor rendition of ‘Amber in a rocker.? Stan Uzelac, of Lake Orion, received an honorable mention.
Merit awards were given to Vianna Szabo, Amy Foster, Sam Wiscombe, Sharyn Intihar, Robert Fionda, Kimberly Santini and Gabe Rhadigan.
The portrait show kicked off with an opening reception on Sept. 21, with appetizers donated by Hollywood Market in Lake Orion.
According to the Art Center, Kathleen Van Ella, a prominent portrait agent, who operates Portraits/Chicago Inc. in Chicago, flew in to jury the competition. She chose 83 of the 115 entries to be a part of the show.
Many visitors to the exhibit have said that this is the strongest show the art center has ever had.
Regular hours at the Township Hall are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
