Milford put a damper on the Brandon varsity girls swimming team’s home opener Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Mavericks earned a 121-65 win against the Blackhawks that day, earning first-place finishes in all 12 events at the meet. In three of those events, Milford also finished second.
The Blackhawks earned second in all three relay events. The 200 yard medley relay team of Kaitlin Grost, Tara Bartle, Stephanie Peck and Allie Sowa finished in 2:16.11; the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Grost, Sowa, Shannon Penix and Christina Hart finished in 2:00.62; and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Amber Criger, Penix, Peck and Hart finished in 4:27.35.
Hart also did well individually, placing second in two different events: the 50 yard freestyle (29.45) and the 100 yard freestyle (1:04.78). Other Brandon second-place finishers were Megan Kennedy in the 200 yard freestyle (2:26.36), Sowa in the 100 yard butterfly (1:16.42), Peck in the 500 yard freestyle (6:23.32), and Bartle in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:26.21).
