Millar, Murphy, Grounds excel at Brandon tourney

Although Brandon’s wrestling team struggled at the Brandon Team Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Jan. 15, three Blackhawk wrestlers provided a ray of light.
The Blackhawks finished sixth out of six teams at the tournament, losing all five of their matches at the round robin competition.
Brandon was the only one of the six schools not to have a wrestler go undefeated, but three Brandon wrestlers ? Travis Murphy (103), Jimmy Millar (119), and Zeke Grounds (215) ? distinguished themselves by going 4-1 on the day’s competition.
North Branch finished in first place in the tournament with a 5-0 record at the event. Wyandotte Roosevelt placed second with a 3-2 record, while Imlay City took third, also going 3-2.

‘Round 1: Linden 60, Brandon 13: Roosevelt 35, Imlay City 32; North Branch 45, Fraser 22.
‘Round 2: Imlay City 66, Brandon 12; North Branch 42, Roosevelt 31; Linden 40, Fraser 31.
‘Round 3: North Branch 69, Brandon 8; Imlay City 34, Linden 27; Roosevelt 51, Fraser 26;
‘Round 4: North Branch 47, Imlay City 21; Fraser 50, Brandon 30; Linden 34, Roosevelt 32.
‘Round 5: North Branch 45, Linden 32; Roosevelt 67, Brandon 12; Imlay City 49. Fraser 27.
The Blachkawks returned to action Saturday, Jan. 22 when they competed in the Avondale Tournament.
