‘Miracle Box’ packing party for troops overseas, Dec. 4

Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club hosts a packing party for Desert Angel’s ‘Miracle Box? program, 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, at the club, Waterford Road.
Louise Downs of Metamora founded Desert Angels in 2001. She and her group ship thousands of boxes filled with needed items and letters to our troops overseas.
Miracle Boxes are named in honor of Pfc. Joseph A. Miracle of Ortonville, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on July 5, 2007. Joseph’s father is Glenn Miracle, a member of Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club.
The club is collecting items in donation boxes at the office door. Suggested items are: pocket foods such as breakfast and granola bars, dried fruit, jerky, crackers, nuts, snacks, cookies, canned or packaged tuna, or meats, no pork, easy open fruit cups, fruit snacks, instant foods such as ramen noodles, instant soup cups, oatmeal, cereal, mac and cheese, pop tarts, peanut butter, hard candy, gum, dry beverage mixes such as Kool Aid, Gatorade, coffee, real and instant, coffee creamer, Tang, tea bags, miscellaneous items; chap stick, foot care items, socks, black or white, phone cards, women’s personal items, note pads, pens, sun block, wet wipes, blank greeting cards, Ziploc bags, toothbrushes and toothpaste, video games and video game consoles, DVDs and DVD players, music CDs, sports equipment such as golf balls and clubs, baseballs, footballs, soccerballs, and basketballs.
