The Wildcats took their first loss on the hardwood earlier last week after falling to Royal Oak 62-53.
‘It was a blessing because the kids were able to see that we’re a really good team, but if we don’t bring it together every night than we can lose on any given night. It kind of brought us back down to earth and any big head we thought we might have had from being a good team really popped that bubble,? said Head Coach Stephan Henning. ‘It helped us realize how important it is bring it every night if we want to do something special this season.?
With that being said Henning wasn’t so upset that they lost, but the manner in which they lost.
‘I told them we’re going to lose throughout the season, but I’m more frustrated when we don’t give our best effort and that was case,? he added. ?(Royal Oak was) the better team that night.?
However, the loss didn’t keep them down for long. The Wildcats roared back by playing their best effort and really well to get a win 79-57 over Berkley on Thursday night.
‘We shot the ball extremely well from Three-point line,? Henning said. ‘I had four players in double digits, which was great and the team won, we were able to bounce back against Royal Oak. Those are all positives.?
The four players who double digits included: Senior Delxino Alexander who shot 10-12, Senior Mason Vires with 19 points, Connor Elzerman 13 and Jordan Jadan came off the bench and put 14 points through the net.
‘It’s exciting. We shared the ball extremely well,? Henning said. ‘It’s always nice when we share the ball like that.?
Another highlight of the game was that Oxford’s defense held Berkley’s number one scorer, Jonathan Radner, who normal averages 21 points a game and the Wildcats kept him to 12 or 13 points
‘Holding him under the season average is always good. I was more excited about us communicating and talking on defense, which I kind of pride ourselves on,? Henning said. ‘We are still currently rated in the top 10 in the county, that’s still great as well.?
The boys will face off against Harrison this week at home on Thursday. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
‘I really try to control my team. I know they have a big kid who is about 6?8 that is a force. But I’m really concerned about what we do and how we get better in practice,? Henning added. ‘Our schedule is really tough coming up. I just want to make sure we have good practices everyday and that we continue to get better.?
