The only thing brighter than her pretty pink outfit was the smile on Oxford resident Kelly Morrison’s face as she got to meet Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera.
Cabrera was at Lake Orion High School Aug. 1 hosting a ProCamps Worldwide baseball camp for more than 300 kids from ages 6 to 14.
Morrison is a devoted Tigers fan who never misses a televised game. She takes all the wins and losses to heart and never gives up on her team. It doesn’t matter if the Tigers are in first or last place, Morrison’s inner roar is always loud and joyful.
Unfortunately, because she’s a quadriplegic with numerous health conditions, Morrison is unable to travel to downtown Detroit’s Comerica Park to watch a game in person.
But a short trip down M-24 to meet Cabrera was no problem at all as Morrison greeted the strapping Venezuelan third baseman wearing her pink Tigers cap, pink Tigers shirt and fuzzy pink tiger-paw slippers.
Morrison’s unable to speak, but the shine of her awestruck eyes and the width of her enchanting smile revealed the true depth of her excitement and gratitude.
Not only was Cabrera, a Triple Crown winner, gracious enough to pose for a photo with Morrison, he later autographed a baseball for her. He’s definitely a class act.
