Mother’s Day Charity ride with Flying Rhinos

Mothers of the Clarkston area, are you looking for some fun on Mother’s Day? How about a bike ride?
Flying Rhinos Cycling Club (FRCC) and non-profit organization Lend a Helping Hand (LAHH) are teaming up for this year’s 26th annual ‘Back 40? Mother’s Day ride challenge.
‘We’re excited,? said Michelle Phaup, founder and executive director of LAHH. ‘This is the first year the bike shop has supported LAHH for this event.?
LAHH financially assists people with uninsured medical expenses due to catastrophic illnesses.
‘A dollar of the registration form will go to support Lend a Helping Hand in our overhead administrative cost for the year,? Phaup noted.
The annual spring gravel road ride will begin at Independence Elementary on Hubbard Road, where riders will choose between 8, 17, 25, or 40 mile course.
‘We’ve had people who’ve never done a 25 mile ride or a 40 mile ride and they want to try a longer ride, but they don’t have a support group to do it with,? said Louise Kasl, co-owner of Kinetic Systems Bike shop. ‘So this gives them an opportunity to try it.?
Kasl also noted vehicles will be sweeping the course, if someone has mechanical problems or needs a lift because they can’t continue. There will also be rest stops and food along each course.
‘It’s a great family and friends get together,? she said.
A free Flying Rhinos Cycling Club water bottle will be given to first 200 cyclist and ‘Back 40? T-shirts can be purchased at registration. Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Independence Elementary on Sunday, May 9.
