New county park

Anglers have a new spot to fish at Independence Oaks County Park-North.
New boardwalks and fishing docks constructed by Oakland County Parks and Recreation provide access to the 31-acre Upper Bushman Lake, and the Large-mouth Bass, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Rock Bass, Bullhead Catfish, Northern Pike and Croppie living there. Michigan Department of Natural Resources rules apply.
Visitors can park in a 30-space gravel lot south of Sashabaw and Oak Hill roads.
Boaters can portage and launch canoes, kayaks and other registered portable non-motorized watercraft. All boats must be hand carried along a 1,200-foot-long gravel trail from the parking lot to the lake. No vehicular boat launch is provided.
Future plans include trails connecting the 188-acre park with the main Independence Oaks system to the south. The property will also be open for archery deer hunting in fall 2011.
