Jake Irvan has returned.
Irvan, a Goodrich native and 1992 graduate of Goodrich High School, is the new postmaster at the Ortonville Post Office.
Irvan attended General Motors Institute and Mott Community College before joining the Ortonville Post Office in 1998. In 2004, Irvan moved to the Troy District Office operations department before working for the Detroit District in routing adjustments. In 2015 Irvan moved to the Dryden Post Office then back to Ortonville this fall as postmaster.
He replaces Janet Saksa who retired this past summer.
“I’ve been with the post office for almost 20 years,” said Irvan, 42. “There’s been a shift from letter mail to packages—Amazon is a big part of our business now.
“The visibility or scanning bar code is also a big change over the years. Today customers can track packages online from origin to end—the service is a logistic challenge.”
The Ortonville Post Office has eight rural carriers that deliver six days a week.
“It’s good to be back in Ortonville,” said Irvan. “I left here 12 years ago and customers still remember me. I really love the rural post office it’s like a family where everyone knows everyone.”
Irvan resides in Lapeer with his wife Heather and two daughters Bella, 5 and Olivia, 7.
