Groveland Twp. — Two new township supervisors and one incumbent will step-in this November following Tuesday’s primary.
In Groveland Township Kevin Scramlin won the Republican nomination on Tuesday replacing long-time supervisor Bob DePalma after more than 40 years in government. DePalma served more than 28 years as supervisor along with, stints on the zoning board of appeals and planning commission chairman, vice chairman of Oakland County Solid Waste Committee and member of Federal Aid Surface Funding Committee.
DePalma will retire from public service at the end of his term in November.
Scramlin said he plans to work alongside Supervisor DePalma over the coming months to learn everything he can from him.
“His institutional knowledge is invaluable,” said Scramlin on Tuesday. “I want to express my gratitude to the Groveland residents. Being elected Supervisor is the most humbling feeling I have ever felt in my life. I plan to do everything in my power to improve your quality of life as a Groveland resident. With the election behind us, we can look towards the future and think of ways that we can all work together.”
There’s no shortage of issues facing Groveland Township. From development and the BESS to roads and public safety, there’s a lot of moving parts, he said.
“But luckily for us, we all want the same thing: a good community to call home,” he said. “Even though I will now be your Supervisor, I am still a resident first. Decisions that are made by the board and me impact us all. Nothing happens in a vacuum.
Finally,I want to recognize Cris Yuchasz. Even though Cris and I disagreed on certain issues, I know he’s somebody that cares about this Township and commend him for putting his hat in the ring.”
In Atlas Township interim Supervisor Jim Busch won the GOP nomination. Busch was appointed supervisor earlier this year following the retirement of Shirley Kautman-Jones.
“I want to thank everyone who supported me in the Aug. 6, 2024 election,” said Busch. “I am honored to continue to serve as your Atlas Township Supervisor.  I invite everyone to continue to work together to the benefit of Atlas Township, the community we all love and cherish. My door is always open.”
In Brandon Township, incumbent Supervisor Jayson Rumball won the GOP nomination for a second term. “Thank you to all that donated money, attended campaign events, talked to me at events and at your homes,” said Rumball following the election. “Thank you too for all those that called me, texted me, spoke to me, asked for and received a sign for your yard or business, volunteered to work a poll on election day, gave advice, listened and just all around supported me in this re-electioncampaign.”
