Senior van driver Annette Beach stands next to a new 21-foot Eldorado Community Transit bus recently obtained through a SMART grant. Brandon Township Clerk Jeannie McCreery said the $57,513 bus came at no charge to the township budget and seats 11 people comfortably (or eight people and two wheelchairs). The new bus is equipped with large steps with handrails, a wide aisle between two rows of seats and a wheelchair lift. The township has also purchased the older SMART van for use as a backup vehicle, and hopes to schedule at least two days a month for shopping trips to area malls or large departmenty stores.
