Many students at Sashabaw Middle School met Interim Principal John Diliegghio for the first time last week, but others remembered him from elementary school.
Diliegghio, who stepped in last week after SMS Principal Linda Foran requested a leave of absence for personal reasons, retired from the district about four years ago.
Since, he said, he’s filled in as principal at Clarkston Elementary, Springfield Plains Elementary and Bailey Lake Elementary.
‘There’s an element of familiarity, and that’s nice,? he said.
While Diliegghio couldn’t recall exactly when he hired into the district’some 15 years ago, he speculated’he first served as principal at SMS and moved to the top position at Clarkston High School before becoming executive director of secondary schools, a position that no longer exists in Clarkston Community Schools.
‘Sashabaw obviously has a special place in my heart,? he said. ? I already know many of the staff, and I’m looking forward to meeting those I don’t.?
It’s unclear when or if Foran will return to SMS, but Diliegghio said he’s available for the rest of the school year if he’s needed.
