A 35-year-old man who shot his now ex-wife in the face last year pleaded no contest in Oakland County Circuit Court April 13 to felony assault with intent to murder along with a laundry list of other charges.
Jay Kristopher Bartoy will be sentenced April 27 by Circuit Judge Lisa Gorcyca for the Oct. 24, 2008 shooting of his ex-wife, a 36-year-old Oxford woman.
Bartoy and his ex-wife were in the process of getting a divorce and not living together at the time of the shooting.
The two were having an argument at her W. Drahner Rd. home when he shot her in the face with a semiautomatic handgun.
She survived the shooting and fled the scene under her own power, but lost her right eye as a result of the attack.
Following the shooting, Bartoy led police from multiple agencies on a chase that ended in Metamora Township when his vehicle rolled over on M-24, north of Pratt Rd.
Bartoy’s no contest plea includes the following charges ? assault with intent to murder, third-degree fleeing and eluding police, possession of a concealed weapon without a permit, using a firearm during the commission of a felony and drunken driving. ? Editor C.J. Carnacchio
