Oxford High School can always be proud of the fact that it consistently sends graduates into the world who truly care about others and try to help out whenever they can.
Mark Alan Willar is certainly no exception.
The 2006 OHS graduate recently chaired a fund-raising event in Ann Arbor that generated about $900 for Push America, a national outreach project of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity that focuses on serving people with disabilities and enhancing their lives.
Dubbed ‘Wheel in Their Shoes,? the fund-raiser consisted of about 40 participants in wheelchairs making a 5-kilometer trek around the University of Michigan campus.
The purpose of the event was twofold ? 1) spread awareness about people with physical and mental disabilities and 2) raise money to help Push America do things like build wheelchair ramps and special playgrounds and nature trails for the disabled, all free of charge.
Willar, who’s a senior at U-M studying industrial and operations engineering, is philanthropy chairman of Pi Kappa Phi’s Alpha Kappa chapter in Ann Arbor.
Even though the fund-raiser is past, Willar indicated donations are still being accepted.
