OHS seniors keep tractor tradition alive

Is there anything more exciting for a teenager than being able to drive his or her own car to high school?
How about driving a big old tractor?
Four Oxford High School seniors celebrated the close of their Wildcat careers by pulling into the parking lot Friday morning seated atop tractors as if heading into the field for day’s work on the farm.
James McCormick IV, Chad Simmers, Gordon Denzler and Noah Walsh showed that no matter how global some folks want Oxford to be these days, the community still has its fair share of good old American farm boys who love the roar of heavy machinery.
McCormick and Simmers have been driving their tractors to school on an annual basis for four years.
‘We’d seen people do it before and we figured we’d continue the tradition,? McCormick said.
‘We just decided to drive up here one day when it was nice and warm out,? Simmers said.
Simmers, Denzler and Walsh drove vintage Farmall tractors from the 1940s, while McCormick operated a 2008 New Holland model.
The boys got lots of ‘thumbs up? signals from fellow motorists as they headed down township roads.
You gotta love Oxford.
