Oxford High School’s boys? junior varsity and varsity soccer teams are proud to announce the Fifth Annual Alumni game to be played Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. at OHS.
‘It is a great event where the Oxford Soccer Community of the past, present and future come together to celebrate Oxford High School’Soccer,? said Boys Varsity Head Coach John Thaler. ‘We’ve had alumni’players come back as far as 1989.?
Proceeds from the game entry donations, T-shirt sales, raffle and concessions, not only support the OHS soccer program, but also local charities.
‘We have donated a portion of monies raised to a few local’charities over the years. One charity is for’a scholarship through a local soccer’family.’We hope to raise enough to do so’again,? Thaler said. ‘We donate to different school activities throughout the year as well.?
He noted, last year Oxford celebrated 30 years as a varsity program.
The alumni game was started by Thaler as a result of so many former players coming back to the school to help out at practices, training sessions and games.
‘I wanted to give back to them what they gave for their school, community and the sport they love. The game is an event where players young and old get to show off their skills and talents’and encourage the younger players that soccer can be a life long sport. It’s great seeing the parents attend as well to cheer on their kids as they did in the past.?
