ADVERTISEMENT TO BID
1. Barton Malow Company requests bids on behalf of Lake Orion Community Schools for the construction of the Elementary Addition and Renovations for Bid Package No. 5 work. Bid proposals will be received by Lake Orion Community Schools, Board of Education Office, 315 North Lapeer Street, Lake Orion, Michigan 48362 delivery or mail, to the attention of Dr. Younkman by 2:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. Proposals must be sealed with bidder’s name on the outside of the envelope and designated as follows:

2. Proposals shall be prepared in accordance with the project manual by the Barton Malow Company dated March 4, 2003 and contract and construction documents prepared by the Kingscott Associates dated February 17, 2003 for:

3. Accepted bidders will be required, as a condition precedent to award of contract, to furnish in the amount of 100% of the contract price, satisfactory Performance Bond and Payment Bond and Certificates of Insurance as required in the Project Manual. This project is subject to state sales tax and/or use tax.
4. Barton Malow Company has been contacted by the Owner to organize and direct the complete construction of the project, and, as such, will act as a representative of the Owner in those matters so designated.
5. Bid proposals will be publicly opened on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 by Barton Malow Company and evaluated by the project Team with recommended awards subsequently made by Lake Orion Community Schools.
6. Bid documents will be available for examination and distribution on or after Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Examination may be made at: the Barton Malow Company site office at 491 E. Scripps, Lake Orion, MI 48362. Construction Association of Michigan Office at 1625 S. Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, F.W. Dodge Office at 35330 Telegraph Road, Suite 350, Southfield, Michigan 48034, Daily Construction Reports Office at 40000 Grand River, Novi, Michigan 48375 and Tri-City Builders, 334 S. Water Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48607.
7. A Barton Malow pre-bid conference and site visit/tour will be held for all trades at Barton Malow field office on Wednesday, March 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. All bidders are responsible for attendance at the pre-bid conference. Pre-bid conference minutes will be distributed to all who are known by the Barton Malow Company to have received contract documents, but the Barton Malow Company, Architect and Owner will not be responsible for providing information to those not attending the pre-bid conference. Information disclosed in the pre-bid conference minutes will be considered part of the bidding and contract documents.
8. A deposit of $100.00 per document set is required. Deposit checks should be made payable to the Lake Orion Community Schools. Bidders shall provide their UPS shipper number for shipping fees if the bidder desires to have plans sent by ground or air transportation. We do not have Fed-X. More than one set is available upon payment of printing and shipping costs. Deposits will be refunded upon return of the bid documents to the Barton Malow Company within twenty (20) days after opening of proposals provided the documents are complete, in clean and usable condition, and free of marks or other defacements. Bidders receiving a contract award may retain the contract documents and their deposit will be refunded upon execution of their contract.
9. Bid proposals shall be on forms furnished by the Barton Malow Company in Section 00400. Bidders will be required to submit with their bids a Bid Security by a qualified surety authorized to do business in the State of Michigan, an OSHA Form 200 (or 200-S) for the most recent past year, provide their worker’s compensation Experience Modification Rate (EMR) factor and any other information required in the Instructions to Bidders. Bidders shall agree not to withdraw bid proposals for a period of sixty (60) calendar days after date for receipt of bids.
10. The successful bidder will be required to enter into a contract with Lake Orion Community Schools on the Agreement Form identified in Section 00500 of the Project Manual.
11. The right to reject any or all bid proposals, either in whole or in part, or to waive any informalities or irregularities therein is reserved by the Owner.
13. The attached map shows the location of both the Bid Receipt/Opening as well as where bid documents will be distributed or picked up.
