Oxford man dies in crash

An Oxford Township man died March 2 from injuries sustained when his car veered off I-75 and crashed near the Crooks Road exit in Troy.
Authorities say 52-year-old Herman Ridgell Junior was pronounced dead on arrival later that night at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.
At this time, the cause of the accident isn’t known.
Troy Police Department community services supervisor Lieutenant Chuck Pappas said the department’s waiting on the medical examiner’s report.
According to the accident report, the Ridgell was traveling about 75 mph, northbound on the interstate around 8:15 p.m. when his 1996 Chevy Beretta veered off the road’s center lane without braking.
The car then rolled and flipped, ejecting the driver, before landing about 400 feet from I-75.
Pappas added that because Ridgell was ejected from the vehicle, most likely he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
The Oxford Township man suffered extensive injuries and was found on the ground about 30 feet from the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire.
Medical personnel then transported him to the hospita.
The Troy Fire Department extinguished the car’s blaze.
