Oxford runners top league foes

The boys and girls cross-country teams competed against the Brandon Blackhawks and the Lapeer West Panthers last Wednesday.
The boy’s team emerged victorious over both league foes, improving their record to 3-1. Senior captain Adam Richmond led the entire pack of runners coming in 1st with a time of 17:33.
Senior captain Todd Davidson wasn’t too far behind crossing the tape at 18:10 and coming in 3rd. Oxford had three other runners place in the top ten for the Wildcat’s winning effort: sophomore Adam Heskitt (18:35/5th), sophomore John Elin (18:53/7th), and junior Greg White (19:24/10th).
The undefeated Ladycats took on the Brandon Blackhawks, a state ranked team, but were unsuccessful in handing the Blackhawks a loss. The Ladycats did defeat Lapeer West and improved their FML record to 3-1. Junior Abby Stewart crossed the line first for Oxford coming in 7th overall with a time of 22:32, followed by freshman Danielle Kelley in 8th (22:37). Other finishers for Oxford include: freshman Taylor Dewey (22:56/11th), junior Kayla Kolean (24:20/12th), sophomore Kelsea Schodowski (24:21/13th), sophomore captain Ellen Darnall (24:23/14th), and sophomore Morgan Stefanski (24:51/16th).
Both teams headed back to Blackhawk territory last Friday to compete in the Brandon Invitational. Senior captains Adam Richmond and Todd Davidson helped earn the Wildcats a respectable 4th place finish out of the ten competing schools. Richmond placed second, while Davidson finished 13th earning both a medal. Oxford juniors Eric Bouck (20:42/8th) and Alex Bergel (20:34/7th) both earned medals in the JV race. The Ladycat runners placed 6th out of the nine teams. Danielle Kelley was the only medal winner for Oxford, placing 18th with a time of 23:10. Abby Stewart placed 23rd (23:34), and Taylor Dewey finished 27th (24:03) for the Ladycats.
