Oxford woman opens home to survivors

Sue Pendred is looking for some house guests.
The owner of Art & Dick’s Party Store is willing to open her Oxford home to shelter survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
‘My home’s big enough,? she said. ‘It’s not huge, but it’s big enough to where I could take in one, two, maybe three people or family with a couple of little kids.?
Lacking the extra money or time to aid the hurricane survivors herself, Pendred decided offering her home was the best way she could help out in response to this national tragedy.
‘I can’t afford to donate anything,? she said. ‘If I had the time to go down there and take stuff to them I would, but I don’t.?
Pendred is currently calling relief organizations and families with relatives in the affected areas, searching for people who need a place to stay.
Once here, Pendred said she would be willing to help her guests find jobs and try to rebuild their lives.
If you know some hurricane survivors who need a home or can aid Pendred in her search she can be reached at Art & Dick’s Party Store (81 W. Burdick Street).
