Pappas to stay on as treasurer during replacement search

Art Pappas will hang up his hat June 30 ? his Clarkston city manager and clerk’s hat, anyway.
Pappas, who has long served as the hub of operations within the half-square mile city, announced his retirement late last year. Monday, he told the city council he would stay on as treasurer ‘for a while? while a new manager and clerk get settled in.
Pappas, 75, answered questions from the council regarding his many responsibilities in his tri-fold role as manager, clerk and treasurer. The council is working to define an ‘ideal candidate,? and will place an ad announcing the vacancies in coming weeks.
Based on remarks at Monday’s meeting, the council will likely interview candidates for both a city manager and clerk’s position’probably designating both as part-time hourly positions’but the possibility of hiring one person to perform both function remains open.
