A request to place a bench in Centennial Park to honor the memory of the late George A. Hesketh, Jr. was unanimously approved by the Oxford Village Council last week.
Hesketh past away in December 2005 at the age of 80.
An Oxford resident since 1966, the retired Detroit Edison district manage and Rotarian was remembered as a tireless supporter of this community ? someone who worked many hours to help make Oxford a better place to live.
He was a past president of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the Oxford Community Development Authority (now called the Oxford DDA) in the 1990s.
The bench was purchased by Hesketh’s wife, Peg, through the DDA’s ‘Adopt a Downtown Bench.? program. A bronze plaque bearing Hesketh’s name will adorn the bench.
