Celebrating its 175th anniversary, Albion College students and alumni are performing service projects all over the metro Detroit area. Clarkston was chosen for one of them.
North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy and Albion College volunteers host a Joint Workday Event, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, Sept 18, at Kimball Preserve in Independence Township.
All members and supporters of all ages are welcome to help. Projects include restoring paths, and building a footbridge and a wetland walk.
“We’ll put logs down and nail boards to it,” said Katie Anderson, executive director. “It has minimal impact in the wetland ? a permisable way to bring people into the wetland without disturbing the wetland.”
The projects are part of the conservancy’s stewardship mission, preserving green spaces for public recreation and education.
“It’s a lab for young folks to understand the importance of environment,” she said.
The 41-acre Kimball Preserve is southeast of I-75 and M-15, at Perry Lake Road and Northview Drive.
