OXFORD TWP. ? A young woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred at about 10 p.m. Feb. 29 and the young man suspected of being responsible for it is currently in the Oakland County Jail, pending review of potential charges from the prosecutor’s office.

(Update from the sheriff’s office: The suspect was released pending further investigation. The sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit anticipates the investigation will take six to seven weeks as it awaits toxicology reports and the results of other forensic examinations of physical evidence. The case will then be submitted to the prosecutor’s office.)

Jordan (also spelled Jordyn) Brooke Puckett, 26, of Orion Township, was walking along W. Drahner Rd. when she was struck by a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado allegedly driven by a 19-year-old Macomb Township man, according to information released by the sheriff’s office.
A newspaper delivery woman discovered Puckett lying on the shoulder of the south side of W. Drahner Rd., east of Olive St., at approximately 4:19 a.m. March 1.
Oxford firefighters were called and she was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician from McLaren-Oakland hospital.
Initially, sheriff’s investigators had no suspects or witnesses to the crash or even a description of the responsible vehicle.
The suspect turned himself in that afternoon at the sheriff’s Oxford Township substation. ‘The truck revealed damage consistent with evidence found at the scene,? according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
The truck was impounded as evidence.
Investigators identified two friends of the victim who reported Puckett was a passenger in their vehicle on the evening of Feb. 29.
According to investigators, the victim’s friends told them ‘they became involved in (a) verbal argument while driving on Drahner Rd. at approximately 9:30 p.m.?
Puckett exited the vehicle and began walking along W. Drahner Rd. in an easterly direction.
Her friends attempted to return Puckett to the vehicle, but she refused to get in, according to investigators. When the friends later returned to the area to look for her, they were unable to locate Puckett and assumed she had safely returned home.
When she was found, Puckett was nearly one mile from where she exited the vehicle. It’s unknown if she was walking in the roadway.
Investigators are continuing to search for witnesses to this incident and the matter remains under investigation.
