The newly opened Pet Supplies ‘Plus,? located at 22 N. Ortonville Road, has everything you need for your animal friends.
Owner Brian Mills says the 9,200 square foot store is a fully stocked supermarket for pets, carrying over 10,000 items, including a large variety of cat and dog food, crates, cat litter, dog biscuits, treats, bird and reptile cages, fish tanks and set-ups, pet toys, collars and leashes, dishes, and wild bird seed and bird feeders.
‘We get new products constantly,? said Mills. ‘We try to keep updated, we’re always looking for new things.?
The store also sells fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, feeder fish, crickets, mealworms, feeder mice and more.
Mills calls it ‘amazing? how the pet business has exploded, saying they have everything for the pampered pet, including dog toys like those for children, a full line of cat furniture, salt for melting ice that is safe for paws, pet clothing, and a whole line of holistic pet food.
Besides an incredible array of products, the store also offers grooming services to keep dogs looking their best, in a friendly, clean environment.
Groomer Holly Jansheski has professional training in hand scissoring and has received grooming instruction in Las Vegas, Chicago, Grand Rapids and Lansing. She works with most breeds, and does breed specific cuts, including poodles, bichons, cocker and springer spaniels, terriers, golden and labrador retrievers, and chihuahuas.
She has been a professional groomer for five years and is certified in CPR.
‘I love animals and I enjoy grooming them,? says Jansheski, who is gentle with each dog’s needs. ‘It’s an art.?
A full-service groom at Pet Supplies ‘Plus? includes dematting, bathing, cuts, cleaning of the ears, and shaving of the paw pads.
A bath only will include the bath, nails and brushing. Different shampoos are used for different needs such as dry skin conditioning. Jansheski also has a dandruff treatment in which she blows out dander and undercoat.
Separate services are available for an extra charge, such as dematting; flea treatment (no residual effect); skunk treatment; medicated or oatmeal bath; nail trim or polish; teeth brushing; deshedding; and ear cleaning.
All dogs are priced according to size and condition of coat.
Jansheski uses all top-of-the-line equipment. Grooming tables adjust to the floor, making it easier on canine hips and joints. A fluff dryer is soothing.
No drugs are used on pets and dogs do not touch noses.
‘Your dogs will look forward to coming to see me,? says Jansheski. ‘For me, the importance is quality, not quantity. I put a lot of pride in my work.?
Jansheski offers grooming services from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Evening appointments can be booked. In general, appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
