Potential candidates for elective office in Oxford Township should be aware the deadline to file the necessary paperwork is 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.
Nominating petitions and affidavits of identity are currently available at the township clerk’s office, located at 300 Dunlap Rd. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
‘We have a packet here all ready for anybody that comes in and requests one,? said Clerk Curtis Wright.
Potential candidates must obtain a minimum of 20 signatures from registered voters, but no more than 50.
That applies to the township’s two partisan, elected boards ? the seven-member township board of trustees and the five-member parks and recreation commission.
The six-member library board of trustees is a nonpartisan body. Potential candidates must collect a minimum of 40 signatures on their nominating petitions, but no more than 100.
All 18 seats carry four-year terms and are up for election this year.
The township board and parks and recreation commission seats will appear on both the August primary and November general election ballots. Library board seats will appear only on the November ballot.
The township board consists of three full-time positions ? the supervisor, clerk and treasurer ? and four trustee positions.
All township board members are compensated. The supervisor is paid an annual salary of $71,791, plus benefits, while the clerk and treasurer each receive $62,289 per year, plus benefits. When their benefits (medical, life insurance, pension and Social Security) are factored in, the total compensation for the current group of officials is as follows ? $112,194 for the supervisor, $95,911 for the clerk and $90,226 for the treasurer.
Trustees are paid $115 per board meeting and $100 per committee meeting, but receive no benefits.
As for the other two boards, members of the parks and recreation commission are paid $30 per meeting, while library board members receive no compensation for their service.
Incumbent township board members who have pulled petitions include Supervisor Bill Dunn and trustees Melvin ‘Buck? Cryderman and Patti Durr. Treasurer Joe Ferrari has filed his petitions.
‘We have had several people pull petitions,” Wright said.
Wright hasn’t pulled his yet, but he’s planning to seek re-election at this point.
Trustee Sue Bellairs, who’s wrapping up her fourth term since 1996, is not running, while Trustee Jack Curtis, elected to the board in 2012, is unsure as to whether he’ll seek re-election.
