Nominating petitions for a seat on the Lake Orion Village Council are now available at the village hall.
The election takes place Sept. 13. Village elections used to be in March, but a new Michigan law requires government bodies to hold elections in September (odd number years) or November (even numbered years).
Council members agreed last fall on September.
Petitions must be back at the village hall no later than June 21, 4 p.m. Petitions must be signed by not less than 25 registered voters of the village and not more than 50.
Council members whose terms are up this year include Bill Siver, Tom Albert, John Ranville and Harry Stephen.
To be eligible to run for office, a person must be of legal age, a registered voter in the village and not ever convicted of a felony.
