Pizzeria B&E costs owners plenty

ADDISON ? Authorities are seeking two suspects in connection with a Sept. 16 break-in at Isola’s Pizzeria that resulted in the theft of two cash registers.
The theft at the 80 Rochester Rd. establishment is believed to have taken place sometime after the pizzeria closed Sept. 15.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Brudvig, substation commander in Addison, declined to disclose the ages and genders of the suspects because charges are pending. He did say the suspects are not in custody and not from this area.
According to investigators, employees arrived at the pizzeria around 9:49 a.m. Sept. 16 to open the store when they discovered a broken kitchen window and an open front door. Further inspection of the restaurant revealed that both cash registers were missing.
The two machines were later recovered not far from the restaurant with all the money missing.
Dan and Teresa Hersha, owners of Isola’s Pizzeria, said about $140 was stolen and nothing like this has ever happened in the 12 years they’ve owned the business. They also own Isola’s Bistro in Lapeer.
Dan Hersha described the crime as a ‘heinous? one where approximately $3,500 worth of damage was done to take a relatively modest amount of cash.
‘It’s a stupid thing, and I don’t know why they did that,? he said. ‘There’s a lot more in that building that they could’ve gotten. I think it was just a smash and dash.?
The owner also described the crime as a great inconvenience to him since he had to leave his business in Lapeer and drive to the Addison location to check on things.
It was also a costly crime in terms of profits because the pizzeria was closed all day Sept. 16 while sheriff’s investigators gathered evidence.
