Postal food drive

Be sure to leave a bag of canned goods and/or other non-perishable food items near your mailbox on Saturday, May 9 for the 17th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
‘The carriers will be looking for (the food) whether it’s hanging from the mailbox or on the ground right next to it,? said Linda Earl, a supervisor at the Oxford Post Office on W. Burdick St.
In addition to delivering the usual assortment of mail, local letter carriers will be collecting food on that day and donating it to Oxford-Orion FISH, a volunteer-driven pantry, located in Thomas, that provides free groceries to local folks in need.
‘Oxford’s always been very good at donating, even in these difficult times,? Earl said. ‘People need it more than ever this year. All the proceeds stay right here in Oxford and Orion.?
Those wishing to donate are asked to please pack their food items in either a paper or plastic bag. Plastic is preferrable if there’s rain on Saturday.
