Weather and a leaky pipe combined to disrupt the last week of classes at three Clarkston schools.
Power failures resulting from thunderstorms, June 8, closed North Sashabaw Elementary and Sashabaw Middle School Tuesday-Thursday, June 10-12, and Clarkston Junior High School Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10-11.
All power was restored by Thursday, said Wes Goodman, director of building and grounds.
The junior high also closed Monday, June 9, because of an antifreeze leak, unrelated to problems with power, Goodman said.
A four-inch underground pipe feeding the system sprang a leak, and the Glycol chemical bubbled up from the ground, he said.
Parents were notified through e-mail and the district web site, said Anita Banach, director of communications and marketing.
The schools had enough emergency days available to allow the school year to end on schedule, June 13, Banach said.
