Railroad hands over property for township trail

On June 7, Ghislain Houle, Vice President and Treasurer of the Canadian National Railway Company, handed Gerald Dywasuk, Orion Township Supervisor, the deed to 1.04 miles of railroad right-of -way.
Canadian National and the Township began discussing acquisition of the property for a trail over five years ago.
This stretch of railroad right- of- way runs between Scripps and Waldon Roads. The future trail will run along Bald Mountain State Park and the Township’s Civic Center Park.
This link will connect the Polly Ann Trail with the existing safety path system and the future utility corridor path.
Township Supervisor Dywasuk commented ‘this is a great addition to Orion Township’s trail system.
‘I am delighted we could work out something with Canadian National to make it happen.?
Rock Blanchard Orion Township Parks Director, added, ‘What a great asset for the Township, this section is an important link to the Polly Ann Trail and our safety paths.
‘It will also eventually connect with the future path along the utility corridor. Civic Center Park would be an ideal trail head.?
