Dear Editor,
I read the recent letters regarding autism and public schools specifically in Lake Orion. I am appalled at the Lake Orion school district. It was my understanding that Lake Orion schools were one of the top in Michigan and an important element in making a decision to purchase a home in the Lake Orion area. Obviously I was misinformed.
To not provide the proper education for children with autism – specifically with all the proven peer viewed research that autism has reached epidemic proportions is a crime. This will leave the state of Michigan with children who will be financially in need of money from the state if we do not provide the right intervention at the early intervention stage. Lake Orion schools, in my opinion are sentencing these children to a lifetime of special education.
My applause to the families who have the strength to take on a class A school district to do the right thing while parenting children with special needs.
