Reader tired of belittling of township officials

To the editor:
As a resident of Brandon Township, I feel it imperative that I too voice my concerns regarding what I feel is important to me as a taxpaying citizen.
Granted, if you knew me better you would realize, like most moms, family is my priority and time is limited. My time is divided around my family, school activities, homework studies, Parent Group meetings and volunteering. Not to mention my own home business and involvement with a local gymnastics and dance studio. Like many of us in the township we are extremely busy. I, too, have to prioritize the outside involvement that might take away from these daily responsibilities.
Even though, becoming “extremely active” in the political aspects of our community is not a major interest to me, I do, however, get “more involved” if and when the need arises. I would not hesitate to step in and take the necessary steps to do what is best for my family, the citizens and the community of Brandon Township. As many people have stated in past articles, Brandon Township is home to many who love the small town feeling, tolerate the dirt roads since it gives us that country atmosphere, and where the wildlife is enjoyed by both young and old. It also has been stated that residents don’t want this to change. I feel in the past there have been numerous articles belittling the judgment of our Brandon Township officials and I’m tired of it. The community voted these board officers into position and the Board should have all of our best interest in mind when discussing issues concerning taxes, community growth and development, employee raises, longevity bonuses, where to better utilize a storage shed for the Recreational Department, etc. A concerned board, a productive and responsible township board is necessary for the longevity of our township. I believe we have this! Concerned residents need to be educated on their issues before making public statements. Educate themselves on all aspects of an issue. Being factual, considerate, truthful and honest should go a long ways, and working together is always the better plan of action to pursue.
This is our community, to voice our concerns, depend on our elected officials to make decisions that will benefit all that call Brandon Township their home. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else! Let us come together to make Brandon Township the best place for our kids and families.
